Fibreglass sheeting is a disaster waiting to happen
A patio roof with fibreglass sheeting burnt through in several sections
Know The Risk
Fibreglass sheeting ignites and burns readily. Because it's usually fixed directly onto a house or sits right against the house, it carries a fire straight into the roof space and wall cavities.
A patio or carport roofed with fibreglass sheeting sitting hard against the house can burn through and expose the adjoining wall or window.
Do The Fix
Good:
Use a water spray system to help protect the fibreglass sheets
Better:
Replace fibreglass sheeting on a patio, carport, shed or if used as a skylight. Swapping to polycarbonate is a dramatic improvement, although polycarbonate has its own weak points, so check our separate Polycarbonate Article
Best:
Replace panels with steel sheets and use altenative ways to illuminate the area
